Getting to work for an organization like Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity is a dream come true for me. From the moment my 20 year old self walked on to a work site in Macomb, Illinois, I was hooked. It didn't take me long to see the impact Habitat has on families going through the program, but getting to witness it every single day, has changed me...to my core.
Families that qualify for our program have to go through 20+ hours of financial training, have to put in 300 hours of their own time helping build their home, have to escrow almost $1000 in the process and at the end of all of - STILL have to pay a mortgage for 30 years!! But let me tell, these families are some of the best people you'll ever met. Hard working moms and dads trying to make a better life for their kids, while trying to gain some financial freedom. I'm lucky every day to get to work alongside them, partner with them, share their struggles and celebrate their successes. I'm a better person for having met them, worked with them, and gotten to call them my family.
It takes a lot of money to build a Habitat home - about $75,000 to be exact. This year we're building 5 new homes for families in need, and your donation will help make one of those homes a reality for a deserving family.
No donation is too small - $10.00 buys us a box of nails, so know that what ever you can afford, we can use. Together, no project is too large for us, and with your help, we'll continue to provide a much needed hand up for a family that deserves a safe, decent, affordable place to live.
